The purpose of middle school is to build upon the foundation established at the elementary level and add the necessary academic and social skills to transition into the high school setting. The program is designed to help students adapt to choices and change.
A sixth grader's day is divided into the common learning blocks of language arts, math, social studies, science, and reading. Seventh and eighth graders' day is divided into a four common block day of language arts, math, social studies, and science.
The exploratory program for sixth and seventh graders is composed of vocational and fine arts opportunities for the equivalence of one period per day. An eighth grade student has an opportunity to take a combination of elective courses in high school foreign language and/or extended learning/exploratory classes for two periods per day.
The equivalence of one period per day in each middle school student's day is spent in health and physical education.
