Meet Laura Hodges, Thundering Herd's Principal
My name is Laura Hodges. I have the distinct honor of being the Principal of this outstanding school. I spent all of my teaching career in Augusta County, as a special educator at Beverley Manor Middle and Stewart Middle Schools for 10 years. I was also an administrator in Harrisonburg City Schools for 6 years. I earned my bachelor's degree in Special Education- Learning Disabilities, a Masters of Education in Special Education- Emotional Disturbances, and a Masters of Education in School Administration & Supervision, all from James Madison University- GO DUKES! I also have an endorsement in Gifted Education. This year is my 10th year as Principal of Churchville Elementary School.
My husband and I are the proud parents of Kristen, 14 years, and Drew, 11. Both of my children have attended Churchville Elementary School, which should assure you that we are on this journey together as parents of elementary school students!
This year we continue to expand our implementation of the Federal initiative known as Response to Intervention (RtI). Response to Intervention is a multi-tiered approach to instruction and intervention for all learners. RtI is an ongoing process of using student performance and other data to guide instructional and intervention decisions. We have the assistance of a reading and a mathematics specialist this school year, which is very helpful to students and staff. More detailed information about RtI is available on our division website. We are committed to the successful implementation of a School Improvement Plan this year, and are anxious to see the results of our renewed dedication to best practices in Reading instruction.
It is very important to me that I get to know each of you, the Thundering Herd Community. Please feel comfortable stopping by to visit anytime!
