RES Gifted and Talent News & Happenings:

  • All TAG students recently got the privilege of hearing Kenyan speaker, Nicholas Sironka, at Riverheads High School.  His presentation was about the Massai culture from his native tribe. The art students from RES and RHS also got to help create a piece of Batik art, that we will get to display in our new school!  He was a very talented speaker/artist and we enjoyed our time with him.

  • 4th and 5th grade students went to the Governor’s School on October 11th.  The academic students learned about solar and alternative energy and got to design their own solar powered vehicle.  So cool!  The art and theater students completed gorgeous sea turtle art with oil pastels and watercolors as they learned about water conservation and pollution.  They also got to participate in some improvisation activities where they were turned into superheroes with very different powers (Super High Pitched Boy, Magnetic Girl, Spaghetti Arms, etc.) to help solve environmental problems.  The group will take another trip in February.

  • The Art and Academic students are taking a trip on October 25th to the Fralin Art Museum, located on UVA’s campus. The program is called the Writer’s Eye. The students will get to see art pieces in person and lots of other neat projects. Mrs. Nilda Jolloff will follow up this field trip with a writer’s workshop to help tie in both the art and academic disciplines.

  • Mrs. Jolloff will be holding an art workshop in December and another in April.  Mrs. Emily Glenn will have a ukelele music workshop in the Spring as well.

  • The Summer Enrichment Program will be held June 5-9, 2017 at WMHS for all Augusta County students who have been identified as Gifted in Math, Science, Language Arts, Visual Arts and/or Performing Arts, as well as students who have been identified as highly-motivated by their teachers.

You may visit our RES Gifted and Talented website at Click on Gifted and Talented. We will keep the calendar updated as information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support of our program!  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!
