The first drawing will be held on October 28, 2016 and the “Scholarship Sweepstakes” will continue with a drawing every two weeks from October thru May. A scholarship check will be payable to the winner’s college of attendance. Only one entry per person for each drawing; however, students can register after each completed drawing for the next scheduled drawing. Maude E. Wallace Scholarship
The Maude E. Wallace Scholarship is a general scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior planning to further his/her education in any field. The amount of scholarship shall be $1,000 and shall be awarded to a Virginia high school senior planning to attend an accredited Virginia college or university and be in need of financial assistance. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be sent along with a copy of the student’s college acceptance letter and reference letters to the VAFCE Scholarship Chairperson before April 15, 2017.
Ella G. Agnew Scholarship
The Virginia Association for Family & Community Education, Inc. will award a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior planning to seek training for a nursing career or other field related to the medical profession. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned along with transcripts, letter of college acceptance and recommendation letters to the VAFCE Scholarship Chairperson before April 15, 2017.
The Virginia Aviation Business Association (VABA) Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, will be awarded to a high school senior who is pursuing an aviation related career in an accredited institution. Scholarship applicants must have a minimal GPA of 3.0. Applications are available in the Guidance office. Application deadline is April 15, 2017.
GFWC Staunton-Augusta Junior Women’s Club Scholarship
The Staunton-Augusta Junior Women’s Club is a community service organization serving Staunton and surrounding Augusta County for over 20 years. The Junior Women’s Club strongly believes in education and will be awarding two scholarships, both to deserving high school females in the amount of $1000 each. The awards are based on community involvement, academic achievement, and overall merit. The deadline for application submission is April 30, 2017. Application and supporting materials are to be mailed directly to the Staunton-Augusta Junior Women’s Club. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available in the Guidance office.
“Aspiring Animation Professional” Scholarship Program
This is the 5th year for awarding this scholarship of $1,000 to high school seniors who are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. The deadline for the scholarship is June 1, 2017.
“Aspiring Business Professional Scholarship”
This is the 2nd year for awarding this scholarship of $1,000 to all high school seniors who plan to pursue a business degree at any accredited post-secondary school or college. SigEp of Virginia Tech is offering a $1000 scholarship for any male student that meets our philosophy of being a “Balanced Man”. This scholarship looks for the best students (current undergraduates and future freshmen) who fully embrace the principles of having a Sound Mind and Sound Body. The scholarship is open to any future male Hokie (including high school seniors who have put down their deposit for the 2017-18 academic year). Clyde W. Morris Memorial Scholarship
The Virginia Association for Pupil Transportation (VAPT) will award a $2,500 scholarship to a Virginia public school senior who has a parent or grandparent either currently employed or formerly employed in the public school pupil transportation field in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Established in 1995 and named in memory of a former Virginia public school supervisor of transportation, this scholarship is awarded to a deserving student to cover education expenses at a postsecondary educational institution in support of a student’s 2017-2018 school year tuition, books or fees. Areas of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, service and an essay will be considered in the decision. Applications are available in Guidance and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
Buster Bynum Education Scholarship
The Southeastern States Pupil Transportation Conference is providing this scholarship in honor of R.A. “Buster” Bynum, retired director of the Virginia Department of Education’s pupil transportation office and current SESPTC treasurer. It is a one-time $2,500 education scholarship that will be made to one deserving public school student in each of the fourteen member southeastern states. To be eligible: the parent/guardian has been an active employee in public school transportation during the past five years and the student applicant has at least a 3.0 scholastic average and will be attending a post-secondary educational institution starting in Fall of 2017. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
Sonny Merryman Memorial Scholarship
The Virginia Association for Pupil Transportation will award the Sonny Merryman Scholarship named in memory of transportation giant Floyd (Sonny) Merryman, Jr. The amount of the scholarship is $2,500. To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a Virginia public school senior who has a parent or grandparent currently or formerly employed in the public school pupil transportation field in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
UVA Facilities Management Apprenticeship Program
The UVA Facilities Management Department is accepting applications for the highly regarded Apprentice Program. The program may be of interest for our high school seniors who want to learn a trade while working as a full-time employee in the following areas: carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing. Applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a GED or high school diploma by August 1, 2017. Online applications for this year’s Apprentice positions will be accepted from March 31-April 21. The Staunton Augusta Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America is offering a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior who has been accepted into a full time accredited college program focusing on conservation and/or environmental studies. The scholarship recipient will be selected from one of the seven high schools within Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County. The scholarship recipient will be invited to attend the dinner and presentation held in Long Fountain, Virginia on the fourth Tuesday in June and must be present to receive the scholarship. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be completed and returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
Blue Ridge Community College Scholarships
BRCC offers several scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend BRCC. The Office of Student Financial Aid Services reviews scholarship applications on the basis of a completed Institutional Scholarship Application, FAFSA data, specific scholarship criteria, academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities and community involvement. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required to be eligible. Applications are available at www.brcc.edu/financial_aid/ and must be returned directly to BRCC by April 15, 2017.
Waynesboro Game & Fish Protective Association Scholarship
The Waynesboro Game & Fish Protective Association offers a $500 scholarship, payable over a two year time period, to a high school senior planning to further his/her education in wildlife management, environmental science or a related field . Eligible candidates must be Virginia resident, demonstrate financial need, have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 and be accepted by a college or university as a full-time student. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
Lillian Morse Scholarship
Lillian Perkins Morse founded several children’s theater groups and provided many opportunities for high school students to be involved in community theater productions. To honor her influence, the Waynesboro Players created the Lillian Perkins Morse Scholarship to an area high school senior. Eligibility requirements include: a good academic record; a contribution to a Waynesboro Players’ production (including cast, crew, music and production team); an interest in pursuing the performing arts or related areas in college; and a record of participation in service organizations/activities. To be considered for this scholarship, candidates please mail NO LATER THAN APRIL 10: A letter of interest including academic, theatrical, and public service achievements; two letters of recommendation; and a high school transcript. Please mail directly to the Waynesboro Players, Inc. office. Scholarship guidelines are available in the Guidance office.
Booker T. Washington Alumni Association
Each year the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association of Staunton awards to a local graduate, a scholarship in the amount of $250 per semester for four years. Seniors from all Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro public high schools are eligible. Applicants are rated on grades, academic achievement, family income and financial need, leadership and participation in school and community activities. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to the Association by May 1, 2017.
Russell H. Douglas, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The family of Russell H. Douglas, Jr. are sponsoring a $500.00 Scholarship to the BGHS graduate who possess the following qualifications: 3.0 GPA; acceptance to a 2 or 4 year college or trade/technical school; demonstrates outstanding personal character; in good standing with BGHS and demonstrates financial need. Applications are available in the Guidance office. Applications and essay deadline is April 21, 2017 to Mrs. Reed in Guidance.
Kennard Educational Fund, Inc. Educational Loan
Union Bank & Trust is offering educational loans through the Kennard Educational Fund to high school seniors planning to further their education after high school. Please note that this is a school loan opportunity, not a scholarship! Loan applications can be picked up in the Guidance Office and should be returned to Union Bank & Trust by June 1.
Staunton Augusta Civic Club Grant
The Staunton-Augusta Civic Club is offering a $500 grant to a deserving senior who needs financial aid in order to continue their education at a college or trade school. The Staunton Augusta Civic Club Scholarship Committee requests the application be picked up in Guidance and returned to Mrs. Reed by April 24 by 3:00. This return date is a must. No applications will be accepted after April 24.
