The first drawing will be held on October 28, 2016 and the “Scholarship Sweepstakes” will continue with a drawing every two weeks from October thru May. A scholarship check will be payable to the winner’s college of attendance. Only one entry per person for each drawing; however, students can register after each completed drawing for the next scheduled drawing. Application Deadline: Prior to last drawing held on May 15, 2016.
2+2 GRASP Renewable Scholarship
The 2+2 scholarships will be awarded to Pell Eligible students who plan to attend Community College with the intent to transfer to a four-year school through the Guaranteed Admission Agreement. The scholarship is renewable for a second year. Applications are available on our GRASP website at www.grasp4virginia.org. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2017.
Maude E. Wallace Scholarship
The Maude E. Wallace Scholarship is a general scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior planning to further his/her education in any field. The amount of scholarship shall be $1,000 and shall be awarded to a Virginia high school senior planning to attend an accredited Virginia college or university and be in need of financial assistance. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be sent along with a copy of the student’s college acceptance letter and reference letters to the VAFCE Scholarship Chairperson before April 15, 2017.
Ella G. Agnew Scholarship
The Virginia Association for Family & Community Education, Inc. will award a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior planning to seek training for a nursing career or other field related to the medical profession. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned along with transcripts, letter of college acceptance and recommendation letters to the VAFCE Scholarship Chairperson before April 15, 2017.
The Virginia Aviation Business Association (VABA) Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, will be awarded to a high school senior who is pursuing an aviation related career in an accredited institution. Scholarship applicants must have a minimal GPA of 3.0. Applications are available in the Guidance office. Application deadline is April 15, 2017.
Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship
VA Alpha Gamma, a local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa honorary educational sorority for women educators will award a scholarship of $1,000 to a deserving student from Waynesboro or Augusta County who is going to college with a goal of entering the field of education. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to Guidance by April 3, 2017.
Ronald Hutchins Memorial “Vision in Business” Scholarship
Hutchins & Hutchins, Inc. is offering a $500 scholarship for one graduating senior from high schools in Augusta County and the cities of Waynesboro and Staunton. The scholarship is a one-time award toward the recipients first year of higher education in Business Management. Applications are available in the Guidance office. Applications must be received by Hutchins & Hutchins, Inc. no later than 5:00pm March 24, 2017.
Earl Warren “Buddy” Bosserman Memorial Scholarship
Sponsored by the Augusta Lions Club, this $500 scholarship will be awarded to one BGHS senior. Selection of the recipient will be based on the student’s record of community service, demonstrated academic ability and financial need. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by March 24, 2017.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Award
The Kappa Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary society for women educators, will present a grant-in-aid award of $1,000 in May 2017. This award will be presented to a student in Augusta County, Waynesboro or Staunton City who has intentions to pursue a career in the field of education. In order to qualify, each candidate must be a female student of one of these schools systems, intend to study education, be a candidate for graduation this year, complete the nomination form with 3 letters of recommendation and write an essay of 300-500 words. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to Ms. Scarlett Kiser by April 11, 2017.
GFWC Staunton-Augusta Junior Women’s Club Scholarship
The Staunton-Augusta Junior Women’s Club is a community service organization serving Staunton and surrounding Augusta County for over 20 years. The Junior Women’s Club strongly believes in education and will be awarding two scholarships, both to deserving high school females in the amount of $1000 each. The awards are based on community involvement, academic achievement, and overall merit. The deadline for application submission is April 30, 2017. Application and supporting materials are to be mailed directly to the Staunton-Augusta Junior Women’s Club. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available in the Guidance office.
“Aspiring Animation Professional” Scholarship Program
This is the 5th year for awarding this scholarship of $1,000 to high school seniors who are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. The deadline for the scholarship is June 1, 2017.

Bev Roach was a respected teacher in this community for 36 years. She was an inspiration to her students and fellow teachers throughout her life and career. A $750.00 scholarship will be awarded to a student interested in pursuing a career in Education. Scholarship criteria includes: Senior at BGHS planning to enroll in a four year college for the Fall 2017 semester to pursue a teaching career; and must have a 3.0 GPA. Applications are available in the Guidance office. Applications and essay deadline is April 7, 2017 to Mrs. Reed in Guidance.
Sigma Phi Epsilon “Balanced Man” Scholarship
SigEp of Virginia Tech is offering a $1000 scholarship for any male student that meets our philosophy of being a “Balanced Man”. This scholarship looks for the best students (current undergraduates and future freshmen) who fully embrace the principles of having a Sound Mind and Sound Body. The scholarship is open to any future male Hokie (including high school seniors who have put down their deposit for the 2017-18 academic year). This is the 3rd year for awarding this scholarship of $1,000 to all high school seniors who aspire to become a nurse at any accredited post-secondary school or college. Shenandoah Valley Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa Scholarships
The PDK Educational Foundation will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to future educators. High school seniors who are planning to attend college and major in education will be considered. The Armenian Education Center Scholarship
The Armenian Education Center is pleased to announce an essay question competition which will award a $1,000 scholarship to one Virginia high school student. Clyde W. Morris Memorial Scholarship
The Virginia Association for Pupil Transportation (VAPT) will award a $2,500 scholarship to a Virginia public school senior who has a parent or grandparent either currently employed or formerly employed in the public school pupil transportation field in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Established in 1995 and named in memory of a former Virginia public school supervisor of transportation, this scholarship is awarded to a deserving student to cover education expenses at a postsecondary educational institution in support of a student’s 2017-2018 school year tuition, books or fees. Areas of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, service and an essay will be considered in the decision. Applications are available in Guidance and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
Buster Bynum Education Scholarship
The Southeastern States Pupil Transportation Conference is providing this scholarship in honor of R.A. “Buster” Bynum, retired director of the Virginia Department of Education’s pupil transportation office and current SESPTC treasurer. It is a one-time $2,500 education scholarship that will be made to one deserving public school student in each of the fourteen member southeastern states. To be eligible: the parent/guardian has been an active employee in public school transportation during the past five years and the student applicant has at least a 3.0 scholastic average and will be attending a post-secondary educational institution starting in Fall of 2017. Sonny Merryman Memorial Scholarship
The Virginia Association for Pupil Transportation will award the Sonny Merryman Scholarship named in memory of transportation giant Floyd (Sonny) Merryman, Jr. The amount of the scholarship is $2,500. To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a Virginia public school senior who has a parent or grandparent currently or formerly employed in the public school pupil transportation field in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
UVA Facilities Management Apprenticeship Program
The UVA Facilities Management Department is accepting applications for the highly regarded Apprentice Program. The program may be of interest for our high school seniors who want to learn a trade while working as a full-time employee in the following areas: carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing. Applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a GED or high school diploma by August 1, 2017. Online applications for this year’s Apprentice positions will be accepted from March 31-April 21. Churchville Ruritan Club Louis C. Elia Memorial Scholarship & Howard Collins Memorial Scholarship
The Churchville Ruritan Club is sponsoring two $700 scholarships to a graduating BGHS senior. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or trade/technical school, demonstrate good personal character, and be in good standing with BGHS. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 3, 2017.
Izaak Walton Scholarship
The Staunton Augusta Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America is offering a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior who has been accepted into a full time accredited college program focusing on conservation and/or environmental studies. The scholarship recipient will be selected from one of the seven high schools within Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County. The scholarship recipient will be invited to attend the dinner and presentation held in Long Fountain, Virginia on the fourth Tuesday in June and must be present to receive the scholarship. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be completed and returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
Houff Family Endowment Scholarship
A scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded to a Buffalo Gap High School graduating senior planning to attend Blue Ridge Community College. Application guidelines are available in the Guidance office and all information, including essay, must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 3, 2017.
Blue Ridge Community College Scholarships
BRCC offers several scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend BRCC. The Office of Student Financial Aid Services reviews scholarship applications on the basis of a completed Institutional Scholarship Application, FAFSA data, specific scholarship criteria, academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities and community involvement. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required to be eligible. Applications are available at www.brcc.edu/financial_aid/ and must be returned directly to BRCC by April 15, 2017.
Blue Ridge Community College Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship
The purpose of the Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship Program is to increase access to higher education and to develop student leadership potential. Buffalo Gap High School can nominate up to three students for this award. Applicants must be full-time, associate’s degree seeking students who plan to graduate from a Virginia Community College. Applicants will demonstrate academic excellence during high school, a willingness to mentor future scholars, a willingness to promote community college education and the Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship Program, and demonstrate a commitment to developing leadership potential. Selections will be based on merit. Applications can be obtained in the Guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 5, 2017.

Waynesboro Game & Fish Protective Association Scholarship
The Waynesboro Game & Fish Protective Association offers a $500 scholarship, payable over a two year time period, to a high school senior planning to further his/her education in wildlife management, environmental science or a related field . Eligible candidates must be Virginia resident, demonstrate financial need, have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 and be accepted by a college or university as a full-time student. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to Mrs. Reed by April 14, 2017.
Lillian Morse Scholarship
Lillian Perkins Morse founded several children’s theater groups and provided many opportunities for high school students to be involved in community theater productions. To honor her influence, the Waynesboro Players created the Lillian Perkins Morse Scholarship to an area high school senior. Eligibility requirements include: a good academic record; a contribution to a Waynesboro Players’ production (including cast, crew, music and production team); an interest in pursuing the performing arts or related areas in college; and a record of participation in service organizations/activities. To be considered for this scholarship, candidates please mail NO LATER THAN APRIL 10: A letter of interest including academic, theatrical, and public service achievements; two letters of recommendation; and a high school transcript. Please mail directly to the Waynesboro Players, Inc. office. Scholarship guidelines are available in the Guidance office.
Booker T. Washington Alumni Association
Each year the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association of Staunton awards to a local graduate, a scholarship in the amount of $250 per semester for four years. Seniors from all Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro public high schools are eligible. Applicants are rated on grades, academic achievement, family income and financial need, leadership and participation in school and community activities. Applications are available in the Guidance office and must be returned to the Association by May 1, 2017.
Nexus Services Inc. of Harrisonburg and Verona will award multiple scholarships to students in Rockingham and AUGUSTA counties. Last year, several FULL Ride scholarships were awarded to students at Harrisonburg, Broadway and Spotswood High Schools. The scholarship awards will be based on an essay contest. Further information on scholarship and essay details are available in the Guidance office. However, applications are available on the web site: www.nexusgives.com. Applications must be typed and returned to the Verona office by APRIL 5, 2017. Incomplete or late applications will NOT be considered.
Russell H. Douglas, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The family of Russell H. Douglas, Jr. are sponsoring a $500.00 Scholarship to the BGHS graduate who possess the following qualifications: 3.0 GPA; acceptance to a 2 or 4 year college or trade/technical school; demonstrates outstanding personal character; in good standing with BGHS and demonstrates financial need. Kennard Educational Fund, Inc. Educational Loan
Union Bank & Trust is offering educational loans through the Kennard Educational Fund to high school seniors planning to further their education after high school. Please note that this is a school loan opportunity, not a scholarship! Loan applications can be picked up in the Guidance Office and should be returned to Union Bank & Trust by June 1.
