Our Story
Our History
Shenandoah Valley Head Start began serving children and families in February 1994. While there have been many changes over the years, our focus has never changed - to serve those who need us the most.
The Shenandoah Valley Early Head Start - Community Child Care Partnership grant was announced March 2015. This grant provides opportunities for our program to work in partnership with several local child care providers to increase services to eligible children and families.
Our Mission
The Shenandoah Valley Head Start & Early Head Start programs, in partnership with communities, schools, and families, provide high quality, comprehensive preschool services which promote school readiness skills to eligible children and families.
Our Work Today
Currently, SVHS & EHS serves families in the counties of Augusta, Bath, and Highland and the Cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Waynesboro. School-based sites provide quality curriculum in the areas of academic, social, and emotional development. Comprehensive services to support the family include physical health, nutrition, dental health, mental health, parent engagement, and family services.
Our Future
SVHS & EHS seeks to work with all income-eligible families in our region regardless of race, nationality, color, religion, disability, or gender.
The Augusta County School Board does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, or gender in its programs and activities and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
