Overview

Hello! My name is Shannon Brake and I am delighted to be a part of the Hugh K. Cassell Elementary school family and join this extraordinary school community as principal! I’m looking forward to a wonderful 2022-2023 school year. We will continue to put students first and work diligently to ensure their success. 

I began my career in education in Rockingham County. I taught at McGaheysville Elementary, Broadway High School, Elkton Elementary, and South River Elementary for a total of 11 years. My experience consists of teaching 2nd and 3rd grade, business, and marketing courses, and serving as an Assistant Principal Intern. I began working for Augusta County schools in 2019 as the Assistant Principal at Clymore Elementary School. 

I grew up in Strasburg, Virginia, and then attended James Madison University. My husband Justin (teacher at BMMS) and I currently live in Augusta County with our two children, Sloane (4) and Carson (3). Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also LOVE reading and cooking and spending time outside.  

I view education as a life long learning process and continue to learn each year from students, staff, families, and the community. Most importantly, I believe that students should be at the center of school-related decisions and I believe in doing what is best for kids in all aspects of this. It is also my belief that strong home-school-community relationships are vital to the success of our students. I’m looking forward to working with each of you to provide our students with an excellent education.
