★ School Counseling Office ★

Summer Residential Governor's Schools provide high school juniors and seniors with intensive educational experiences in visual and performing arts; humanities; medicine and health sciences; mathematics, science, and technology; or through mentorships in marine science, or engineering.
Each Summer Residential Governor's School focuses on one special area of interest. Students live on a college or university campus for up to four weeks each summer. During this time, students are involved in classroom and laboratory work, field studies, research, individual and group projects and performances, and seminars with noted scholars, visiting artists, and other professionals. In the three mentorships, students are selected to work side-by-side with research scientists, physicians, and a variety of other professionals. A director and a student-life staff provide supervision of students 24 hours a day, throughout the program.

COLLEGE & INDUSTRY VISITS:

College visits are held during Cougar Return and are open for ALL students, but we especially encourage juniors and seniors to attend if they are planning to attend college in the future.  Please listen to announcement and check your emails for upcoming college visits. This is an excellent opportunity for all interested students to ask questions and learn more about the application process, student life, courses for students and much more!!  This is also a great way to make a great first impression on the admissions counselors of the college you are interested in applying to.

Please see Mrs. Goodloe in the Counseling Office or email your counselor if you are interested in attending.

  • The Salon Professional Academy (TSPA) visit, April 3rd,  during Cougar Return, in the innovative classroom.

  • Come learn about the Marine Corps ROTC Scholarship on Tuesday, April 8th. The meeting will take place during cougar return in the innovative classroom. Sign up with your counselor or the career coach. The scholarship is an exciting opportunity that encompasses $180,000 + 4 year scholarship. It is very possible for students to qualify, but they have to meet some prerequisites. We encourage many students to come and learn about this opportunity to see if they qualify!

  • BRCC Application Info for Seniors:

The Priority High School Scholarship Application is due by March 29th. This is a single application that provides access to all scholarships for which a student is qualified.  The deadline requires that references from teachers, coaches, and others are received by the deadline as well.  https://brcc.awardspring.com/

The Direct Enrollment Survey and BRCC Onboarding form must be completed by April 5th in order for students to participate in fall course enrollment at SDHS on April 15th in the SDHS library.
