The School Year (SY) 2021-2022 Indicator 8 Parent Survey collection period will soon be upon us. Please note that the methodology for dissemination of the Indicator 8 survey has not changed from last year. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) encourages that you have parents complete this year’s survey using the online links listed below for versions in English and Spanish. The online survey will open June 1, 2022. The VDOE will also work with our parent agency partners to make the availability of the online survey known to parents across the Commonwealth, as well as sending it out through our social media links and GovDelivery messaging platform. Links posted under "Helpful Links" for Parents. Printed surveys and postage paid return envelopes will be sent to each local educational agency (LEA) special education administrator for direct dissemination to parents of children with disabilities. The printed surveys will be shipped directly to LEAs by the middle of May 2022, in quantities to match each LEA’s December 1 child count, plus an additional ten percent. This will be the same for the English and Spanish versions of the printed surveys. The VDOE is asking for your assistance to promote completion of the survey by each of your families who has a child with a disability who is provided special education services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP), by whatever means you deem appropriate. Families who have more than one child receiving special education services should complete a separate survey for each of their children. This year’s deadline to complete and submit survey responses, in any modality, is December 16, 2022. Thank you for your ongoing commitment toward ensuring that we involve all parents in their child’s special education program. If you have questions or need assistance concerning this survey process, please contact Chiquita Seaborne, via telephone, at (804) 225-3898 or via email, at Chiquita.Seaborne@doe.virginia.gov.

The WMS Library Squad has finished their final project for the year and gifted a Little Free Library to the school. It was placed in the front foyer of the school for students and families to use. Many students contributed to this project by sharing their time, talent, and also by assisting with the book drive. The library also received a make-over this spring, and many murals were added to the library space. We would like to thank the WMHS art students who helped make this project possible. Mrs. Rachel Janacaro, along with many others, shared hours of her time overseeing this paint project that the art students completed. The staff and students at Wilson Middle School appreciate all of their hard work and love the new look!

Our SCC, Stinger Community Crew/PTA is excited to sponsor teacher appreciation week for our teachers next week. Students have a unique opportunity to be involved and directly show appreciation to teachers. It is called adopt a teacher to share a sweet treat. Here is how it works: 1. A student may select one teacher to "adopt for a sweet treat" 2. The student will bring in $4 to treat that teacher to a delicious ice cream treat from Smileys. 3. The student may bring the money into our registrar's office to select the teacher of their choice. Please note each teacher may only be selected once. 4. On Wednesday, May 4, the ice cream treat will be delivered to our teachers. Students may begin bringing in money to sponsor teachers on Thursday, April 28. What a wonderful way for students to be involved in showing appreciation! In addition, we invite our families to sign up for other opportunities to support our teachers for teacher appreciation week. You can access the sign-up genius on the SCC facebook page or our WMS website.

We are looking forward to spoiling our teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6! Our Stinger Community Crew has been hard at work planning some awesome treats, but we humbly ask for your help. We would like to make goodie bags for one of their treats, so if you are willing to help purchase items to fill them, we would genuinely appreciate it! We have created a sign-up genius of all their favorites, so you can pick whatever you would like from that list! We need all items brought to the Main Office (Ms. Parrish) by Friday, April 29th. Thank you so much! We appreciate you! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c45aba723a2fac16-teacher

It is time to start planning for the Fall 2022 cross country season! We will have our first fun run of the summer and informational meeting on Saturday, May 7 at 9 am at the parking lot next to the softball field at the cross country course. Spread the word! We are hoping that all of our returning rising 7th and 8th graders return, that we pick up some additional existing middle schoolers, and get a big class of rising 6th graders!
