Shirley Kaufman, WHSV's Teacher of the Month - Shirley Kaufman's name was submitted by Austin Lam, who had this to say in the nomination:
"Ms. Kaufman is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of teacher, she is the head Agriculture teacher at Buffalo Gap. Ms. Kaufman is a leader and has changed many lives, like myself, she courage me to try new things and to break out of my comfort zone, and I would not be the person I am today if it wasn't for her. She deserves all the dedication she can get, and if people were to ask her former students about her, they would all say the same, that she is a hard-working, time-dedicated teacher"

Yes We Can Build Self-Determination in Early Childhood! Starting early is a key to building successful self-determination skills! Leaders of our Augusta County Preschool program shared how they began to implement the skills and vocabulary of self-determination in their classrooms, how they plan to continue to build these practices, and how you can create a culture of self-determination in your classroom at any age at the I’m Determined Educator Aspire Symposium! Self-determination is supported through elements including choice-making, decision-making, problem-solving, goal-setting, self-regulation, self-advocacy, internal locus of control, self-efficacy, and self-awareness.
We appreciate our School Psychologists!
During the week of November 6-10, 2023 schools throughout the United States will celebrate National School Psychology Week (NSPW) to highlight the important work school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive. This year's theme is "Let's Grow Together," inspired by the importance of both personal and shared strengths in our growth as individuals and school communities in every season of life. The theme recognizes every aspect of growth, as fundamental to effective learning environments and to school psychologists' role in supporting student well-being and learning. -National Association of School Psychologists
Reminder to Families: Monday, November 6 and Tuesday, November 7 are Work Days/Professional Development Days for staff. There is no school for students.

The Preschool Program’s second Fall Fair of 2023 was another exhilarating opportunity for students, families, and community partners. All participants experienced activities related to math, literacy, social-emotional development, sensory, and learning more about resources and services available in our community. A meal was served by members of Augusta County’s nutrition program to each guest and volunteer.
What a wonderful way for our community to come together to support every child, every family in an inclusive way!
Kathy Smith and the School Nutrition Program staff at Stuarts Draft High School recently served up these delicious vegetables.
Our preschool program held the first Fall Fair of 2023! Families engaged in activities and conversations with various community partners, teachers, and instructional staff that incorporated sensory, literacy, math, and social-emotional components. Augusta County School’s nutrition program also partnered with our preschool program to serve each guest and volunteer with a meal. It was an incredible outreach experience, bringing our community together!
