PSAT/NMSQT
The PSAT/NMSQT, more commonly referred to as the PSAT, is a standardized test that assesses the critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills students need for college and beyond. The PSAT is given to interested sophomores and juniors in October each school year. This is the only time during the year that a student is able to take the PSAT at Fort Defiance High School. All interested sophomores and juniors must sign up for the test prior to the test date.
Each student who takes the PSAT receives an itemized score report in December which provides important feedback regarding a student's strengths and weaknesses relative to preparation for college.
Students taking the PSAT gain access to college and career planning resources offered by the College Board. In addition, certain scores on the PSAT qualify a student to take a dual-enrollment course the following semester or school year.
For juniors, taking the PSAT gives students a chance to enter scholarship programs through the National Merit Scholarship Program.
