Valley Career & Technical Center is one of ten regional centers in Virginia. Located in Fishersville, the Center is an integral part of the public school systems of Augusta County and the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. Expanded vocational opportunities are provided to high school students electing to apply for enrollment in a Center program related to their chosen career pathway. The primary objective of the Center is to provide high school students with competent career and technical training that will provide them with the basic skills, knowledge, and techniques of their chosen career pathway. The Center also provides career and technical training to adults who wish to broaden or upgrade their skills in a given career area.
Valley Career & Technical Center students spend half the school day at their home school and half at the Center. Yearlong courses at the Center grant three units of credit per year. Semester courses grant one and a half credits. In all courses, space is limited and governed by student interest each year. Interested students must complete an application to indicate their desire to enroll in a Center course. Courses do include additional fees for materials and equipment. Public school buses provide transportation to and from the Center for high school students.
Students desiring to enroll in a course at the Center should show a genuine interest in their chosen career pathway. Interest and a positive attitude are extremely important to a student's success in career training, as well as to his or her success in finding future employment.
Sophomores may shadow at the Center in the fall and winter in order to learn first-hand about a Center program before deciding to apply. Students interested in shadowing or enrolling in a Center course should speak to their school counselor.
