New Student Enrollment & Registration

Each school in Augusta County has unique characteristics, but we all share the same educational goals. Each student is expected to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies that will enable him/her to function effectively in a career, as a family member, and as a citizen. Likewise, the intent of each school is to provide a safe and orderly teaching and learning environment where students can achieve their educational goals and realize their intellectual, physical, emotional, and social potential.

At Fort Defiance High School, we build community and make a positive difference through tradition, respect, and responsibility – the Indian Way. We look forward to having your student join our school community. In order to enroll your student, you must follow the enrollment process listed below.

 Step One: Complete the brief enrollment questionnaire so we can prepare for your student’s enrollment. You can complete this questionnaire online (https://bit.ly/questionnaireFDHS) or on paper.  (Rising ninth graders coming from Stewart Middle School do not need to complete this questionnaire.)

 Step Two: Complete the online registration through Infinite Campus.

  • New Families: https://bit.ly/onlineACPS

  • Current Families Enrolling a New FDHS Student: Login to your Campus Parent account to access the online registration (Campus Parent > More > Online Registration).

 Step Three: Gather the required enrollment documents listed here: https://5il.co/2pyy8.

Step Four: Once you have gathered the required enrollment documents, make an appointment with our school registrar to complete the enrollment process. Please know that the counseling office is not fully staffed during the summer months. Your patience is appreciated.

To facilitate the registration process, a natural parent or legal guardian will need to be prepared to provide the following documents:

  • Birth Certificate (§22.1-3.1 of the Code of Virginia);

  • Immunization Records (§22.1-271.2 of the Code of Virginia);

  • Proof of Residency in the Fort Defiance High School district;

    • lease agreement OR mortgage contract

      And one of the following:

    • utility bill (water, gas, electric, cable or landline phone); OR

    • personal property tax bill or receipt; OR

    • pay stub with address indicated; OR

    • bank statement with address indicated;

  • Documentation of a Current Custody Order and/or Legal Guardianship (if necessary);

  • Certified Transcript from Previous School;

  • Current Schedule & Transfer Grades (if enrolling during the school year)

  • IEP or 504 plan from previous school (if necessary)

  • Physical (as necessary)

Students transferring in-county or from a public school in Virginia may already have a physical on file at the previous school. Students transferring from homeschool, a private school or out-of-state will need to provide a copy of the student’s physical prior to the first day of school. An out-of-state physical is acceptable if occurring within the past 12 months. If your student plans to participate in sports, a VHSL Physical and Concussion form will also be required.

A homeless student or a student placed in foster care by a social service agency has a thirty (30) day grace period to produce and/or confirm required documents. As a school and a division, we will collaboratively work with students in these situations in order to best meet their needs upon their enrollment.
