School Accounting and School Bookkeepers
The Role of the Bookkeeper:
School Bookkeepers play an essential part in the operations of our schools. They are responsible for performing a variety of bookkeeping duties in accordance with procedures established by the Department of Education and School Board Polices. Bookkeepers are responsible for the receipt of monies, posting of receipts, and making bank deposits. Bookkeepers prepare and issue all internal account purchase orders, as well as advising teachers and sponsors on rules and regulations of internal accounts and procedures. The bookkeeper certifies all invoices for payments, and issues and distributes checks for payment following the authorization by the Principal. In addition, the bookkeeper reconciles the monthly bank statement, prepares the monthly financial reports, and prepares end of year closing and rollover of account information for the beginning of the new school year. Additional duties of the School Bookkeeper include preparing supply orders and substitute payroll reports, and performing clerical duties as assigned by the Principal.
