Tax Exempt Status

The Augusta County School Board, and all Augusta County Public Schools, are tax exempt.  

"The Augusta County School Board is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia.  As a political subdivision, the Augusta County School Board is entitled to take the benefits conferred upon it by the General Assembly of Virginia and the United States Government as a nonprofit entity."

The Augusta County School Board is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a political subdivision of the state.  There is no provision of the Internal Revenue Code that imposes a tax on the income of governmental units, such as states and their political subdivision.

The Augusta County School Board is not a 501 (c) (3) organization.

An individual Schools' Employer Identification Number is available upon request to the Augusta County School Board Finance department.
