Purpose:
The purpose of the apprenticeship program is to ensure the professional development of the School Nutrition Program (SNP) employees by providing relevant educational & on the job training. Employees may earn 5 to 15 percent increase to their salaries with successful completion of level requirements.

Who is eligible?
Any contracted employee is eligible to enroll. Participation in the program is voluntary. All levels will be open to all employees regardless of job title. If an employee chooses not to participate, they will continue to benefit from the standard pay scale.
How do I enroll?
Obtain an Apprenticeship Action Form from your on-site manager or the SNP’s central office. Send the completed copy to the SNP’s central office. A copy will then be sent to Todd Cook at the Dept. of Labor & Industry.
Can I receive credit for prior coursework?
After review by the SNP supervisor & the VVTC rep, credit may be given. Documentation/transcripts will be required. A passing grade of “C” or better will be required as a minimum before credit is given. To receive credit for any of the School Nutrition Association’s (SNA) specialized training courses (ex. Serving it Safe, Healthy Edge, etc.) they must be the most recent edition on the market.
Coursework:
Participants may take more than 1 class per semester & in any order. A “Request for Reimbursement for Continuing Education Courses” must be submitted to Central Office prior to taking the course. Employees will be reimbursed up to $75.00 for the successful completion of a course. Scott Gochenour from VVTC will track the apprentice’s class records & grades.
Will Augusta County Schools provide tuition reimbursement?
Yes. Augusta County Schools will reimburse employees up to $500.00 per course for tuition costs (textbook and supply costs are not reimbursable). Employees must submit the "Request For Reimbursement For Continuing Education Courses" PRIOR to taking a class. Once the class has been successfully completed, verification of passing the course along with a receipt for payment of tuition must be submitted along with the "Reimbursement Claim Form For Continuing Education Courses Completed".

In addition to the Level 1 coursework, 2 years of on the job training must be completed (no waiver); plus, the recommendation of the SNP supervisor & a satisfactory performance evaluation must be obtained.
Level 1 Rewards:
Along with a 5% salary increase, a certificate & card with the title of “School Nutrition Program Technician” will be granted.

Dates of Importance:
Effective April 1, 2009, there is no longer an "open enrollment period" for any apprenticeship program. Employees may enroll at any time. If you are interested in the apprenticeship program for your area of employment, please contact your supervisor/director.
The deadline for completion of course work and/or competency testing for completion on an apprenticeship level in order for a salary adjustment in the upcoming year is April 15th.
